Care Advice

Woolen Rugs – Care and Maintenance

Wool is a natural material that is both durable and naturally dirt-repellent. By following a few simple care guidelines, your wool rug can remain a beautiful and long-lasting part of your home for many years.

Regular Care

Vacuum regularly
Vacuum your wool rug at least once a week, and more frequently if it is placed in a high-traffic area. Always use a flat nozzle without a rotating brush to avoid damaging the fibers.

For rugs with a slightly longer pile, vacuum in the direction of the pile to minimize shedding.

It is normal for new wool rugs to shed excess fibers from the production process. During the first few weeks, vacuum more frequently to remove loose fibers. Shedding will gradually decrease over time.

Use a rug pad
A rug pad helps protect your rug from wear, improves comfort, and keeps it securely in place.

Rotate regularly
We recommend rotating your rug a couple of times a year to ensure even wear and balanced exposure to sunlight and shade.

Cleaning Instructions

For best results, your wool rug should be cleaned by a professional cleaner using flat wash or dry cleaning methods.

Do not machine wash the rug.

Stain Treatment

If your rug becomes stained, act immediately. In many cases, quick action can prevent permanent damage.

Liquid spills (wine, coffee, milk, etc.)

  1. Blot the spill immediately using a clean kitchen towel, paper towel, or toilet paper.
  2. Absorb as much liquid as possible. If accessible, blot from both sides of the rug.
  3. Do not rub, as this may push the stain deeper into the fibers.

Food spills

  1. Carefully remove as much solid residue as possible using a spoon.
  2. Blot the remaining stain with a clean towel.

Cleaning the stain

  1. Mix lukewarm water with a mild detergent (such as a gentle shampoo) in equal parts (1:1).
  2. Dip a clean white cloth into the solution and gently dab the stained area. Do not rub.
  3. Repeat the dabbing process 3–5 times as needed.
  4. Use a dry white cloth to absorb excess moisture.
  5. If necessary, prepare a fresh solution and repeat the process.

If the stain does not disappear, consult a professional cleaner.

Indoor/Outdoor rugs

For outdoor use simply rinse with water using a garden hose. Keep the rug stored indoors during severe weather conditions. For indoor use vacuum regularly and rotate periodically. In the event of spills on the rug dab the affected area (don´t rub) with a soft cotton cloth. To remove dirt spots, use a solution of mild soap and water.
